Edgewood, Maryland (10/19/2010) – United States Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) toured the Edgewood Boys & Girls Clubs today to view the impact from federal dollars through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Her visit also included spending time with community leaders in Harford County to talk more about the impact of BRAC on the county’s future.

On Wednesday June 30, 2010 over 100 members form Harford County Boys and Girls Club joined Mr. George Mullin, member of the Board of Directors to his home in Street, MD. Throughout the day the kids were able to explore and enjoy fishing, swimming, exotic animal show, pony rides, nature walks and much more. Mr. Mullin also provided free food for the the club members courtsey of Chesapeake Quality.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County is being recognized with an $8,000 grant from the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens to fund real world experience programs that help encourage them to stay in school and consider future career possibilities. As one of 250 organizations to receive a portion of the $1.8 million grant from the Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County will host training sessions for the Young Leaders Academy to promote career job opportunities, job shadowing at local retail and restaurant businesses, in-corporate team building skills from outside organizations, events geared to positive subjects such as self – worth and persistence, and fun activities to keep the youth ‘off the streets’ and be encouraged to be the best they can be.

On June 8th and 9th, 120 Volunteers from The Home Depot will be coming to the Aberdeen Unit to give the Club a much needed make-over. Volunteers will be coming from 17 stores in the Baltimore region and will be painting, carpeting, building shelving units and performance some general repairs to give the Club a new look. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for June 9th at 3 PM at the Aberdeen Club.
