Our History

Every child follows a path in life.  For many that path will lead them to a door … a door that gives them a place to learn, to grow, to belong … a place to forge Great Futures.  For more than 25 years the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County have opened their blue doors to over 35,000 County youth.

It all began in Aberdeen, where a group of concerned community leaders and  teachers, the mayor and a city commissioner, banded together with a common purpose- to provide a safer and more educational alternative for out-of-school time. In 1990, the first group of 40 Aberdeen kids met in the basement of Grove Presbyterian Church.  Over 25 years later, Boys & Girls Clubs are serving more than 7,000 kids at their 4 Clubs in Harford.

Today, when you walk into a Club, you can see a lot of exciting new things such as STEM labs, high definition music studios, and hot meals at dinner time.  Incredibly, Club members continue to pay just $20 a school year.  Aberdeen made the very first investment in Boys & Girls Clubs that launched a movement to better serve our community’s youth.

Thanks to the investment of our community members, the Clubs are looking forward to the future and the next 25 years, for which we foresee reaching more kids, more often, and in new segments of the County.
