BGE to Host a Captain Mercaptan℠ Action Day at Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County Edgewood Location

WHAT:           BGE is hosting Captain Mercaptan Action Day at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County to help teach young children about the importance of natural gas safety. BGE’s natural gas safety super hero, Captain Mercaptan, is named after the safety scent “mercaptan” that BGE adds to natural gas to make it easy to detect by smell.  The newly released comic book, IRON MAN featuring Captain Mercaptan, A Natural Team, is an action-packed story that revolves around learning how to detect natural gas leaks and the appropriate action to become a natural gas safety hero just like Captain Mercaptan. BGE will host a Captain Mercaptan Action Day at the Edgewood Club location to educate children about natural gas safety through a series of fun-filled activities. Activity stations and games include:

  • Comic Book Corner: students get a chance to read the IRON MAN and Captain Mercaptan comic book

  • Action Book Area: Students in grades K-2 review games, activities and coloring book

  • Good Smells vs. Bad Smells Challenge: smell containers and try to identify the ingredients inside, including the smell of Mercaptan, which gives natural gas its odor

  • Power Play: Club members will be divided into two teams to try to identify a group of appliances and determine which use electricity and which use natural gas

 

WHEN:           Tuesday, November 17, 2015, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. is when the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County elementary school students (grades K-5) will take part in natural gas safety activities and receive giveaways at the end of the day’s activities.
