The Boys & Girls Club has always been the kind of place I could call home in a way. Even when I was a club member, I always thought of the Boys & Girls Club as a place I could go to. I was very excited to work here for a second year so I could be with the kids and my friends as well.
I have learned lots of skills that will help me in the future and skills I didn’t even realize I had. I have always had people picking me up when I was down, whether it was a kids smiling face or my friends making jokes to cheer me up. I always had something to push me forward. Even though we had to do things that weren’t always fun, like taking out the trash or cleaning rooms, the kids and even staff would always make it worth it.
Being a YLA has shown me so many things that I will carry with me forever, but most importantly it has shown me how to be a true leader and made me learn that I want to spend my life inspiring people. I can proudly say that the Boys & Girls Club has changed who I am and has made me not only a better person, but a better leader.
