2012 Annual Appeal

November 2012

Dear Friend,

You have the opportunity to positively influence and impact the youth of our community by supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County.  As 2012 draws to an end you can help us close the gap and enable us to create new opportunities for thousands of young people.

Since 1989, we continue to provide a safe, nurturing environment for all young people, especially those who need us most, for just $12 per year.  Our four locations in Aberdeen, Bel Air, Edgewood and Havre de Grace allow young people access to after school activities, tools to lead healthy lifestyles, athletics and educational programs.  Without havens like Boys and Girls Clubs, young people like 2012 Youth of the Year Kenneth Young, Jr have fewer opportunities to receive positive guidance and support.

In reflection of his experience Kenny said “being a Club member is an experience that I will cherish forever; it is an experience I will share with my kids and their kids. It’s very difficult to put into words the impact that Boys & Girls Clubs have had on my life; it’s definitely been a life saver. They taught me that giving back and sharing your life experiences can change someone’s life and yours.  I wish there were Clubs in every community so every child could experience what I have experienced at my Boys & Girls Club.”

People have a lot on their minds these days as they read headlines and hear troubling news about the state of our economy.  However, I am reminded of what Nelson Mandela said “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children”. While the economic forecasts are uncertain right now, what is quite certain is that there is no better time to support our Clubs and help change and in some cases, save, the life of a young person.

This holiday season, consider a gift of $50 and invest in our vital work. No investment is too small to help ensure our children realize their own Great Futures.  Please find it within yourself to allow our Clubs to prosper and grow during these tough economic times.  After all, It Just Takes One caring adult.

With sincere appreciation,

Torrence M. Pierce

President, Board of Directors

P.S. Our children need the Club now, more than ever.  Help our positive staff save more kids’ lives.  Thousands of area youth will have a brighter future because you are making an investment in them.
