57% of 3rd graders in central Maryland can’t read at grade level.

Poor readers in 4th grade are four times as likely to drop out of high school, and high school dropouts are more likely to become homeless, have a child while still a teenager or even end up on death row.
But you can do something small to help, that’s actually really big. Our READ LEARN SUCCEED initiative is making a difference in the lives of local youth so that they can learn to read, read to learn, and succeed in school and beyond.Volunteer to read to a child today – maybe one hour, once a week, or even once a month, you can even or also recruit a team to alternate volunteer dates with you.
All four of our Boys & Girls Club locations (Aberdeen, Bel Air, Edgewood, and Havre de Grace) will be joining United Way of Central Maryland in this initiative to help kids succeed through learning to read.  Sign up to volunteer today! 410.272.0010
