Edgewood Boys & Girls Club Opens a State of the Art Music Studio with the Help of Best Buy and Home Depot
Edgewood, Maryland-July 12, 2012 This Thursday, July 22, at 5:00 p.m. at the Edgewood Boys & Girls Club, Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County will be opening a state of the art music production and recording studio. Sponsored by Best Buy and The Home Depot, this project will enable teens in Harford County access to the tools needed to be successful in careers and technical jobs in the music industry.
Randy Acosta, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County notes Although the digital divide is lessening, a persistent technology gap exists between those who have the resources to access technology and those who do not, and much remains to be done. Public venues, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County, can provide daily access to technology, not only for schoolwork assistance but also for career preparation and other personal enrichment activities. The Music Studio/Learning Lab provides teens, ages 13-18 with a productive and creative outlet to learn and use technology to record, edit and publish music. Teens will learn new skills in technology in support of our Science, Technology¸ Engineering and Math (STEM) initiative to grow the number of students entering technical career pathways.
